Are Mesh Chair Better and Comfortable?

Ergonomic mesh chairs are very popular, but are they comfortable? If you're looking for a good chair, should you consider buying one? Here's what you should know before buying.

Mesh is popular for obvious reasons: constant airflow keeps you cool, and mesh is a good-looking modern style. The level of support you get depends on the mesh used and the overall design of the chair. Let's discuss the seat back first. A good ergonomic chair can support your lumbar, either with mechanical lumbar support (Nightingale CXO and Knoll Life are good examples) or with a back shaped to support your lumbar (HAO-A2 Ergonomic Chair, Pursuit Ergonomic Chair, Humanscale Liberty, Ergohuman Mesh Chair and Eurotech Apollo MT9400). One of the best examples of the latter type of lumbar support is the HAO-A2 Ergonomic Chair by VIONE SEATINGS. The back of the chair is made of new nylon and fiber-reinforced plastic, and the back is separated and the back can be raised and lowered;Back Bracket: The seat back bracket is made of new nylon fiber-reinforced plastic; it really has support where you need it. Compare this to the Nightingale CXO's mechanical lumbar support, which has a new nylon and fiber-reinforced plastic frame on the seat pad, and a remote control function that you can place where you want. Either method can be comfortable and supportive.

Comfort is easier to discuss in ergonomic terms when it comes to mesh seats. A great chair seat conforms to your body, spreading your weight over a larger area and reducing the stress on your hips, hips and spine. A stiffer mesh won't spread your weight, making it a poor choice for those who sit for long periods of time each day. Softer mesh will work better, but may stretch and sag over time. For these reasons, few better chair designers produce chairs with mesh seats, and most mesh chairs have upholstered seats.

A bigger potential problem with mesh seats is the plastic frame that many use. When sitting in a chair, your knees should be slightly lower than your hips (raise or lower seat height to achieve this). However, many chairs use a synchronized reclining mechanism that causes the seat to swing back with the seat back, thereby raising the front lip of the seat. This can put pressure on the back of the thigh and reduce blood flow to the calf. This hard edge can also be very uncomfortable if you like to sit forward in the seat. One mesh seat that doesn't have this problem is the Knoll Life, which has a waterfall seat front and a flexible edge that moves down when you lean forward.

All in all, a full mesh chair could be a good choice for a conference room or home office where users don't often sit for long periods of time each day. If you sit all day, you may benefit from considering a mesh backrest with lumbar support combined with a contoured, upholstered seat.
